Instructions for installing CM3D2 Mods [15.10.15]

many ways and one goal

This Page will contain instructions on how to actually install modifications (Mods) which may or may not be as easy as dragging and dropping the folder of the Mod into another folder.

First off, there are three types of modifications:

  • GameData Modifications and Additions
  • .mods
  • Plugins

Let's focus on the first and second first, however it is worth mentioning that Plugins may have a wide array of effects which the other two can not provide.

Explanations for what exactly makes GameData different to *.mods may be posted here later as appendix.

What you need to know is that GameData Mods may replace content in the game if they use an existing name. body001.model may be replaced very often since it modifies the female body to e.g position the arms behind her back. Few Mods do that and if they do, one may need the CM3D2 Mod Priority Patch depending on which install method has been chosen.

.mods always add something into the game, often clothes, accessories and body customization, sometimes also skins.

How to install GameData which do not replace content and .mods easily without any tools required (CM3D2 Version 1.11 and above, support for *.menu,*.model,*.mate,*.anm,*.tex only, luckily or sadly scrips and voice mods are rare):
  1. If you have no "Mod" folder in your CM3D2 main dir (\KISS\CM3D2), create it by right-clicking in the very folder and choose to create a new folder.
  2. For *.mod: Move the *.mod files into the "Mod" folder. They can not be placed in any sub directory.
  3. For GameData: It is advised to move the GameData folder into the Mod Folder. ¹
  4. Start CM3D2 and enjoy yourself

¹GameData Mods can be installed in the Mod Fodler however one likes, if you want, you can move the parent folder instead but if you install all the GameData Mods like I do advise you to, you'll be notified whenever two files would conflict with each other which would be mostly the case when you have an updated or old version of the same Mod. If the Mod has no GameData folder then it most likely has the GameData's sub folders (material, menu, models, textures &c) instead.

If you want to install GameData Mods which replace existing content, you need to install the CM3D2 Mod Priority Patch which can be found here:
which needs to be placed in the ReiPatcher's Patches folder (KISS\CM3D2\ReiPatcher\Patches). Requires ReiPatcher, obviously found here:

General info on Plugins will be posted soon, they are a bit more tricky... but are worth the effort! For now here are three rules of thumb, however please read the instruction of each plugin since it is often more than just that.
  • *.Plugin.dll into the "UnityInjector" folder (\KISS\CM3D2\UnityInjector)
  • *.Patcher.dll into the "Patches" folder (\KISS\CM3D2\ReiPatcher\Patches)
  • *.Managed.dll into the "Managed" folder of your game version (\KISS\CM3D2\CM3D2x64_Data\Managed)

Instructions for other methods may be posted here later. The one vanilla one should be more than sufficient most of the time. Deflarc and the ModManager have become nearly obsolete and have only a few little advantages over the official method after 1.11 hit but feel free to look at them yourself, especially if you want to mod scripts, Deflarc can what the official tool can not.
